Talking Vision is Vision Australia Radio’s flagship program, discussing the latest news and issues from a blindness and low vision perspective.

This week Sam was joined by Vision Australia CEO Ron Hooton and his special guest for the day, Cassie.

Cassie is a LEAP participant with aspirations of one day becoming a lawyer or a CEO, and she had the opportunity to spend the day with Ron getting all the finer details of day to day life as a CEO.

Cassie got a great deal of insights from her time together with Ron, and from the day she felt even greater motivation to pursue her ambitions.

“Before I came today I pictured it as a heap of decisions but it turns out there’s a lot more to it. I learned about how you make certain decisions and what you need to look for when making them. It was really great to watch everything today and see how it all works,” Cassie said.

The idea of becoming CEO for a day and finding out all about the role was something Cassie had been keen to take part in for some time, and through the LEAP program this became a reality.

In particular Cassie was just one of a group who headed into Kooyong as part of the LEAP work experience day, and for Ron it can’t be stressed enough just how important and beneficial days like this can be for kids who are blind or have low vision.

“For so many of our children who are blind or have low vision because so much of the world is visually learned, having the opportunity to interact with people in a high quality way and find out about jobs is a vitally important part of development,” Ron said.
