    Hi there,

I have a question that affects everyone regarding the voting process and what is a valid vote.

Apparently there is a “for”, “against” and “abstain” box against each candidate.   This is extremely confusing and I think a letter of clarification needs to go out to all members
What are the instructions that you are giving to your auditors as the vote invigilators as to what constitutes a valid vote? Must you vote “for” 4 candidates? Can you just vote for one candidate? Can you vote “for” some candidates and “against” others?   Will an “against” vote reduce the votes for that person?

As you can see the situation is rather confusing as a numbering of the candidates was not used.

Can you please clarify the situation.

    Thanks,
    Dale.

    Good afternoon Dale

Thank you for your comments. The ballot format and instructions is consistent with last years. The vote will be independently scrutineered by Ernst and Young as they do at every contested election. The auditors will refer to the instructions which state in the document Section 3 – Ballot to Elect Directors, “To the right of each candidate’s name are three boxes, for against and abstain.  To vote you must either mark one of the three boxes to the right of the candidate’s name or else perforate the ballot paper within that box.”  As there are four positions and five candidates you must only vote for four candidates on the ballot paper.  A voting clarification letter will not be circulated to members as we have already received votes from a number members. The members have the opportunity to check their understanding of the voting instructions with the Company Secretary’s office on (03) 9864 9684 or companysecretary@visionaustralia.org, to date with the exception of your comment I have received no similar inquiry. I will take your comments into consideration for next year’s instructions.

    Best regards

    David Speyer
    Company Secretary

    Hi,

I am aware of at least one other person that spoke to the Company Secretary's office before this answer was posted so what you say is not correct.

The instructions you give are confusing - is a vote valid if they vote only for 1 candidate? I contend it is because the instructions do not exclude this.

Also I don't know where the voting instructions you refer to are meant to be located but they are not in either the voting pack either my wife or I received. I know of other members who didn't receive any such instructions either.

The only instructions in our voting pack is the covering letter that says complete the ballot.  Nothing else.

Have we failed to receive some voting instruction that was sent to other members?

    Dale.
