Vision Australia website is a web accessibility champion!

19 November 2008

Vision Australia’s website is one of only two in the world to achieve the highest level of conformance to the new Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0).

On 3 November the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).announced that Version 2 of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines are now a Proposed Recommendation. This is the last stage in the approval process before they are signed off in early December.

A dedicated group of experts from around the world has been working for many years to update these Guidelines. The changes take account of the advances in the Internet since the first version of the Guidelines was released in 1999.

Vision Australia has played an important role in this work. First as a member of the Working Group and, most recently, by trying to implement the new Guidelines before they become official.

In the implementation trials, Vision Australia’s website achieved the highest level of conformance to the new Guidelines (Level AAA).
