The graduation ceremony for the 2009 Graduate Certificate in Vision Impairment (Orientation and Mobility) course was held at Vision Australia Enfield on 28 January. Michael Simpson, General Manager Policy & Advocacy formally presented the five proud graduates with their certificates.

The graduates completed their 33 week training course in October 2009, and are now all working as Orientation & Mobility Specialists in NSW and Queensland.

The Graduate Certificate in Vision Impairment (Orientation and Mobility) is a nationally recognised qualification for people seeking employment as an Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist.

O&M Specialists equip people of all ages who are blind or vision impaired with the necessary skills and concepts to move safely, efficiently, confidently and independently. Orientation to the environment may include moving around the home, travelling to school, catching public transport to work, going bushwalking or taking a world tour.

O&M Specialists also offer assessment and training in the use of mobility aids and development of sensory awareness.

Congratulations

The 2010 course is due to start on 8 February in Sydney.
