Vision Australia thanks NSW Clubs for their support
02 December 2009

The grant from Riverwood Legion & Community Club (Club Rivers) will help our Employment Services.
- Vision Australia receives $47,973 from a number of NSW local clubs to help support our blindness and low vision services
- By 2020 the number of Australians who are blind or have low vision are expected to double from 300,000 to 600,000.
Local NSW Registered Clubs have once again showed their generous support to Vision Australia through the 2009 Community Development Support Expenditure (CDSE) Scheme which provides funding for local community projects and services.
Vision Australia was delighted to be granted $47,973 from 18 local clubs to help support our blindness and low vision services in 11 Local Government Areas throughout NSW.
The largest grant was received from Riverwood Legion & Community Club (Club Rivers) who granted Vision Australia $11,650 through the Hurstville CDSE Scheme to help support Vision Australia's Employment Support Program for people who are blind or have low vision living in the Hurstville local government area.
Vision Australia's Employment Support Program equips people who are blind or have low vision, with the skills and support they require to confidently seek, obtain and maintain employment, to make a career change, to achieve a promotion or settle into a new role.
Employment Consultants assist clients to overcome the barriers they face in gaining and maintaining employment as a result of their vision loss, such as negative employer perceptions and accessibility issues, and help them to participate equally and actively in the workplace.
With the number of people who are blind or have low vision expected to double from 300,000 to 600,000 by 2020, as estimated by the World Health Organisation, Vision Australia relies heavily on the generous support of community organisations like registered Clubs and CDSE Committees to help us prepare for the growing demand for blindness and low vision services in the community. With their support, people with vision loss living in their local areas, can access our free services and fully participate in every part of life they choose.
