Don't miss your chance to name a Seeing Eye Dog puppy!
14 November 2009
Two puppies from the recent Seeing Eye Dogs 'U' litter.
As any new parent knows, picking a name for your new addition is a difficult but important job. This task is no different when choosing a name for our four legged friends!
If you find it hard to name just one dog, imagine how hard it must be for Seeing Eye Dogs Australia who has to name more than 100 each year.
The task of puppy naming at Seeing Eye Dogs Australia just keeps getting harder particularly given no two Seeing Eye Dogs can have the same name.
Over the course of a dog's life, it will hear its name over 35,000 times! So choosing the right name is an important job not to be sniffed at.
That's why Seeing Eye Dogs Australia is calling on the community to help them name two cute little yellow Labrador puppies who are only a few weeks old.
"A seeing eye dog provides the gift of independence to hundreds of Australians who are blind or have low vision, so choosing the right name is important business for us," says Leigh Garwood, General Manager Seeing Eye Dogs & Orientation. "There are currently around 150 Seeing Eyes Dog teams across Australia - so you can only begin to imagine how tricky this job would be," he adds.
"We are inviting Melburnians to come along to Seeing Eye Dogs annual Open Day to have a rare chance to meet these five and a half week old pups and suggest a name. Seeing Eye Dogs Australia assigns a letter to each litter - these pups are from the 'U' litter and any names will need to begin with a letter 'U'!" explains Mr Garwood.
So don your thinking caps and head to Seeing Eye Dogs Australia Open Day from 11.00am on Sunday 22 November 2009 at 17 Barrett Street, Kensington, Victoria.
