Blunkett to begin tour

05 November 2009

Just a reminder that the Right Honourable David Blunkett, former British Home Secretary and current Labour MP, will be arriving in Sydney on Saturday for his two-week Australian tour.

Vision Australia has organised Mr Blunkett's tour of Australia along with the Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG).

During his stay he will promote awareness of vision impairment and Vision Australia at a number of high-profile engagements, including the National Press Club, The Sydney Institute and IPAA National Conference.

Blind since birth, Mr Blunkett is a leading role model for people who are blind or have low vision. He was elected to the House of Commons as the Member for Sheffield Brightside in 1987 and went on to become Secretary of State for Education and Employment in 1997, Home Secretary in 2001 and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions in 2005.

Until 22 November, you can read regular highlights of Mr Blunkett's Australian tour on Vision Australia's website.
