7. Definitions
For the purpose of this Charter the words and terms below are defined as follows:
Adult - a person who is 16, or more, years of age.
Blind - a person who meets the criteria for permanent blindness under section 95 of the Social Security Act.
Board - the body made up of directors of the Organisation.
Child - a person who is 15, or less, years of age.
Client - an adult, or parent/guardian of a child, who is blind vision impaired, deafblind or print disabled and who is currently receiving services or has received services from the Organisation.
Client Services Committee - a sub committee of the Board of the Organisation.
Organisation - Vision Australia as incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001.
Consumer - an adult, or parent/guardian of a child, who is blind, vision impaired, deafblind or print disabled who would be eligible to use the services of the Organisation.
Consumer organisation - incorporated organisations of adults, or parents/guardians of children, who are blind, vision impaired, deafblind or print disabled who would be eligible to use the services of the Organisation.
Deafblind - a combined loss of vision and hearing that significantly affects access to communication, learning, socialisation, activities of daily living and mobility.
Executive management committee - the Chief Executive Officer and the senior management team.
Print disabled - where, as the result of blindness, vision impairment, deafblindness or other disability, a person requires reading material in a format other than standard print and where the services of the Organisation can meet the alternative format need.
Region - a geographic area as defined by the Organisation for the purpose of managing the service delivery operational aspects of the Organisation.
Vision impaired - a person with visual acuity of less than 6/18 (0.3) but equal to or better than 6/60 (0.05) in the better eye with the best possible correction and/or a visual field of less than 20 degrees.
