Live the Vision – Monthly Giving Program
Every day at Vision Australia we witness the difference our donors are making to our community.
You can support children and adults who are blind or have low vision to participate in every part of life they choose by becoming a Live the Vision partner. Live the Vision is our monthly giving program that makes it so easy to donate each month.
Today 300,000 Australians are blind or have low vision - a figure that is set to double by 2020, which will place a greater demand on our services.
It costs Vision Australia about $80 million a year to deliver our programs. As just over a third of our funding comes from Government sources, we rely on community support to continue our work. As a Live the Vision partner you’ll help us to reach more Australians who are blind or have low vision.
Where does your monthly donation go
You can direct your monthly donation to any of the following areas of interest:

Independent living
Your generous donation will help someone to:
- better understand their eye condition and make the most of their remaining sight.
- learn how to manage household duties such as cooking and cleaning.
- receive Orientation & Mobility (O&M) training to ensure they can safely move about their home and local environment. This training costs us $3,666 per client.
- learn to use a cane or a trained seeing eye dog.
- receive advice on how to make their home, school or workplace manageable.

Education
Your donation will help us to:
- teach a child daily skills such as eating with cutlery. It costs Vision Australia $11,990 a year to tailor a program around the needs of a child who is blind.
- introduce a preschooler who is blind or has low vision to braille through our Feelix Library, which posts out book kits that include tactile and audio elements.
- prepare a child to begin school by liaising with their educators. Our Orientation & Mobility (O&M) experts also ensure young clients can find their way about at school.
- ensure students who are blind can access the curriculum.

Information
Only 3 to 5% of information is available in a format that can be read by a person with a print disability. With your help we can change this by:
- providing information in a range of formats, including braille and audio.
- working with Government and business to produce materials such as bills and notices in alternative formats.
- distributing technology such as digital playback devices (pictured) that enable people who are blind or have low vision to read books, magazines and newspapers.
- offering thousands of digital, audio and braille titles from our free national library.

Employment
63% of the potential labour force who are blind or have low vision are unemployed. With your help we can turn this figure around by:
- providing advice and training that enables people to find and keep a job.
- working with job-seekers and employers to equip people to succeed in their field.
- advising people on training options such as braille or computer courses.
- providing job training, including certified courses in office skills and woodwork.
The advantages of monthly giving
Monthly giving not only makes it more convenient for you to support people who are blind or have low vision, it also enables us to reduce our administration costs. This means we can direct more funds into our range of essential services and effectively plan for the future.
