Did you know 300,000 Australians are blind or have low vision? And this figure is set to double by 2020.

We urgently need to raise $660,000 in order to meet the growing demand for our free programs. It is only through the generosity of our supporters that Vision Australia, the nation's largest provider of blindness and low vision services, is able to support this rising population.

Low vision doesn't discriminate. It affects people of all ages, impacting on every aspect of their lives - their ability to recognise people, read a newspaper, cook a meal, identify street signs and even get from A to B.

Jeff is no stranger to the fear and uncertainty that accompanies vision loss. The 77-year-old has lived with macular degeneration since 2003.

"I have peripheral vision in my right eye and I'm hanging on to the sight in my left," he says. "I've always been active, so when I learnt I was losing my sight I was frightened of losing my independence as well."

Not to be beaten, Jeff turned to Vision Australia for advice on how to remain independent. We advised him on lighting to optimise his limited vision and put tactile markers around his kitchen so he can safely prepare meals.

An avid reader, Jeff now receives audio books from our library and can read medicine labels and newspapers thanks to specialised magnifiers.

I'm pleased to say that the support and practical solutions provided by our specialists have had a tremendous impact on his quality of life. It's always satisfying to be able to assist proud older Australians to remain self-reliant.

Your gift today will allow us to offer more Australians like Jeff the same reassurance and independence they deserve.
